This weighted hook has a tremendous amount of versatility. I designed it for two main applications - suspending a shrimp under a float and working a tail-hooked shrimp or lip-hooked mudminnow. It works great for trout, flounder, redfish or pretty much anything that inhales a bait. The super-sharp, Kahle-shaped Gamakatsu hook keeps them pinned!
When using it to suspend a shrimp or mudminnow under a rattling float, it has just enough weight to keep the bait down, but is very unobtrusive. I typically hook the shrimp just under the horn.
For flounder or other fish hugging the bottom, it's hard to beat a tail-hooked live shrimp on this rig. In shallow water, the 1/16 or 1/8-oz. models are perfect to ease the bait along the bottom on a tight line. For deeper or swifter water, you may need to upsize to 1/4-oz. to keep it down. This is one of the most natural rigs you can use for live bait. If you are into nose-hooking plastics, this will work, but I employ it for live bait presentations.
